Question #3: Where can I find information on starting a Nonprofit?

So perhaps small businesses are not the best way to go these days. How about nonprofits? If the patron is serious about pursuing this course, you might want to guide them to the Nonprofit Resource Center located on the third floor of the Main Library. But if they're unable to access the resources there, where else would you point them in either the collection or online? Please give us your thoughts!

  1. The very first place to start, of course, would be the Nonprofit Resource Center at the Main library. However, if the person has, as yet, not fully formed their idea then I suggest they contact the NonProfit Center of Northeast Florida. This is an organization dedicated to local nonprofit agencies. Contact information and information about the center may be accessed via their website http://nonprofitctr.org.
A person interested in beginning a nonprofit should also visit our website. Access to information about nonprofits is available through the Special Collections link on our main webpage. Just click on 'Special Collections' in the green 'Resources' box. Scroll down to 'Nonprofit Resources @ JPL'. There are links to agencies as well as lists of recommended readings.

  2. If someone wants to start a nonprofit they should go to the Nonprofit Center of NE FL (http://www.nonprofitctr.org/) -they're located at 1301 Riverplace Blvd. Ste. 301, Jacksonville, Fl 32207 and they are a non-profit organization that supports local non-profits. They offer classes & other resources for start-ups. Once the non-profit is set up they should come to the library to search on the Foundation Directory Online (database) for funding sources.
