With our fourth question, we are creating a list of social services in the Jacksonville area. Keep in mind that these can be solely local organizations (such as Clara White) as well as national organizations with a presence in Jacksonville (such as the Salvation Army). Please let us know any and all such organizations and any information about them (where they are located, how to contact them, what services they provide). Please give us your thoughts!

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) is a statewide, non-profit, human services agency dedicated to helping all people in need regardless of religious affiliation, age, or national origin. Headquartered in Tampa, the Agency has more than 60 programs located throughout Florida. Since LSF was established in 1982, more than 800,000 children and families have received assistance from vital LSF services including: the Child Care Food Program, P.E.P.P.I. Head Start Child Development Center, Foster and Adoptions Case Management, Youth Shelters and Family Crisis Counseling Programs, Guardianship Program, Housing, Employment, Refugee and Immigration Programs, Ryan White AIDS Program, and Disaster Response Programs for victims of tornadoes, hurricanes, floods, and other natural disasters.
In 1975 when the Vietnam War ended, thousands of refugees sought safety in the United States arriving with nothing more than the clothes they wore. The needs of the refugees were tremendous and the Lutheran Church responded quickly providing them with immediate aid in the form of food, clothing, and temporary homes. This assistance was vital; however, it soon became apparent that a larger, on-going, and more organized effort was necessary to help the newcomers adjust to life in a new country.
As a result, the Lutheran Church sponsored employment programs to help refugees find jobs so they could truly begin building new lives in America.
