Question #32: Where can I find tax forms and assistance?

Ah, 'tis the season for digging out your receipts and fillinf out forms that start with "W". We don't dispense any advice on this topic, but we can sure as heck point to some places and sources that do. Have any recommendations? Please give us your thoughts!

  1. The post office has forms. You can also get them online at www.irs.gov/formspubs

  2. I always recommend TaxAct: it's more user-friendly than similar services offered by H&R Block or Jackson-Hewitt. And it's free. (You do need an e-mail address, however.)

  3. For tax forms, I would recommend coming to any library to get their forms. If we don't have it, you can get it through the IRS's web site at www.irs.gov, and clicking forms and publications on the top left.

For tax assistance, there's a number of sites on the web that you can do, but if you want one-on-one, FREE assistace, I would recommend the AARP's tax assitance. Here's the web site for their schedule: http://jaxpubliclibrary.org/lib/aarp_taxhelp.html
