Question #17: Where can I find information on Native American tribes?

JPL is fortunate to have quite a few good volumes on this very subject in our hardcopy collections. Tell us about the ones you have used and if your prefer one over another. Also, or course, let us know about any online resources you may have come across. Please give us your thoughts!

  1. There are many wonderful sites to get information on Native American Tribes. I like this particular one because it gives you a chart of the food, customs, art, etc. of the various tribes. http://www.mce.k12tn.net/Indians/navigation/native_american_chart.htm

  2. "American Indians Contributions to the World" is available on Reference at Main, PCR, West, UPK and SOM. I like this particular book because it has the inventions and innovations indexed by subject and separately by tribe. It gives more and expanded information than just using the Native American Encyclopedias availabe at most libraries on Reference.

  3. America the Beautiful would be a good database to use.
