This question will definitely be even portions of JPL resources and online. What can you tell patrons about the periodicals in the system (both at the branches and at Main)? What do we have access to in our databases? Finally, where can they find well-organized guides online to newspaper and magazine stories? Please give us your thoughts!

NewsBank is a great database for newspaper articles.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Collection at the Jacksonville Main library has a small collection of magazines that is worth the trip to the 4th floor. We have the Florida Gardening, Florida Trend, Florida Monthly and many more magazines that you will find interesting and applicable to life here in Florida.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thepaperboy.com; http://newslink.org; http://www.4imn.com are good sources for national and international newspapers and magazines.

The JPL website has a fairly comprehensive listing of -- and collection -- of newspapers, both print and online. Click on "Magazines & Newspaper" in the green "Resources" box. One not to be missed electronic source is the Florida Digital Newspaper Library of old newspapers.
ReplyDeleteAnother great source is Internet Public Librarian (soon to be renamed IPL2) which has a very comprehensive list of newspapers, both national and international, organized by state and region/country.
And for customers seeking older primary sources, let's not forget the Reader's Guide to Periodicals. Maybe we'll have an online guide like that someday soon for all of our electronic resources!
