Question #42: Where can I find general reference resources?

We end our ten month long project with a bit of a miscellaneous category. My general aim here is to point out where one can find stuff like almanacs, encyclopedias and so on, but I also want to open this up to all of you who know of really great print resources and websites that you like to share with people. These may fall into subject categories we have already covered (and you never got around to posting on the blog) or they may be on a subject we have left out. Doesn't matter. Please tell us about them, and thank you for your particpation!

  1. 50states.com is a great website for a lot of information concerning states and cities. I use it to find the driving manual for Florida since we don't have the manuals and the DMV is always out of them. Has the state flags, songs, tree etc all in one place.

  3. My first boss at JPL claimed she could run a reference desk and answer most reference questions with just three resources: World Book Encyclopedia, the almanac, and the dictionary. Of these, I would still recommend a good up-to-date almanac such as Information Please as a resource that would give you a wide variety of information in one book.
